For Shopify merchants that work with multiple authors to build out your content marketing strategy on Shopify blog, it is not a rare sight that each author would slowly build out their own followers and audience.
This is why it is important to allow your customers / blog viewers to be able to filter for blog articles based on authors. While Shopify blog has a built-in field for Author, is is unfortunately not well utilized to be made into a filter.
Thus, to make your Shopify blog posts filterable by author, the best way is to utilize the article tag features. Tag is a very versatile and universal feature to help you organize and categorize your blog posts. By tagging the author into each article + some customizable with either theme or app, we can create a very user friendly experience and help customers discover more blog articles that they like.
Here is a step by step guide on how to create an article filter system by author in your Shopify blog.
1. Tag the author for each article
Once your blog article is ready to be published, be sure to go to the right side bar in your article editor. From there, under tag, just type in the author name to tag him / her.
Note: If you want to display the author name, please make sure to also insert the author name under “Author”. So now, you should have the same author name in “Tag” and in “Author”.
2. Setup the filter for your blog
The best way to setup the filter without hassle is to use an app supported by experienced developer.
Yes I am referring to our app Blog Posts Articles Filter PRO.
- Download the app from the Shopify App Store here.
- Once downloaded and picked a plan, you can select the blog(s) you wish to add the author filter.
- Create a filter called “Author”, then search and select all the author from the tag dropdown.
- Select “Publish” and Save.
Now on your blog, the customer would be able to see the author dropdown filter. When they select an author from the list, the app will show all the articles tagged with the author’s name.
